DALLAS (BP)–GuideStone Financial Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention will sponsor its annual Wellness Walk/Run during the Southern Baptist Convention’s annual meeting in San Antonio.
SBC messengers and their families as well as members of San Antonio-area Southern Baptist churches are invited to join in the walk, which begins at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at the Alamo Street entrance to HemisFair Park. The park is adjacent to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and within walking distance from most hotels in the Riverwalk area.
The first 500 registered walkers to stop by the Wellness Walk booth at the convention center (age 10 and older) will receive a free T-shirt.
“The purpose of the Wellness Walk is to demonstrate GuideStone’s ongoing commitment to wellness,” GuideStone President O.S. Hawkins said. “Walking is a great form of physical activity and almost anyone can participate.”
The body is “the temple of the Holy Spirit,” Hawkins continued, “and we have a stewardship of this physical gift from God. It is our desire to continue to raise the standard high and call upon our Southern Baptist friends to get serious about their personal wellness and begin to make right choices leading to healthier lifestyles.”
Warm-up for the San Antonio walk will begin at 6:15 a.m. There will be a one-mile and 5K course for both runners and walkers. Start times will begin at 6:30 a.m. and will be staggered for runners and walkers. Healthful refreshments will be served to participants at the end of the walk.
Interested individuals can register online at www.GuideStone.org or by calling 1-888-98-GUIDE (1-888-984-8433). Registered walkers can pick up their bib numbers at the Wellness Walk booth at the convention center. The booth will be located near the convention registration area on Sunday, June 10, and at the GuideStone Wellness Center in the exhibit hall on Monday, June 11.
