Homer Lindsay family copes with cancer, death of son

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (BP)–Homer Lindsay Jr., co-pastor of First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla., has been diagnosed with lymphoma, according to Douglas Pigg, the church’s administrator. The announcement comes one week after Lindsay’s son, Homer Lindsay III, died of a heart attack.

Lindsay Jr. had been ill for several weeks and his condition was announced to the 26,000-member congregation during Sunday morning worship services Feb. 6. Lindsay Jr. will start chemotherapy once he regains strength.

Lindsay III, 38, died Jan. 28 after he had a heart attack at the church’s annual Pastor’s Conference. Lindsay III was at the church with the entire Lindsay family for a tribute to his father.

Lindsay III was taken to the Shands Jacksonville Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The funeral was held Feb. 3 in the church’s main auditorium.

Lindsay III is survived by his wife, Marcia; his parents, Homer Jr. and Shirley; and three sisters, Peggy, Nancy and Clara.

Lindsay III had worked for Hardage-Giddens Funeral Homes for 20 years.
