Huckabee presents proclamation honoring Southwestern

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP)–Following his Veterans Day chapel address at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Nov. 11, Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a seminary alumnus, presented the seminary with a proclamation honoring its commitment to preparing ministers for service in his state.

The proclamation reads:

WHEREAS, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has trained ministers of the Christian gospel since 1908; and

WHEREAS, more than fifteen hundred Arkansans have attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary to receive instruction since its founding; and

WHEREAS, more than thirteen hundred of the seminary’s sixty-five thousand alumni are currently serving churches and Christian organizations in the State of Arkansas;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Huckabee, acting under the authority vested in me as governor of the State of Arkansas, do hereby issue this proclamation in honor of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

IN TESTOMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Arkansas to be affixed this 6th day of November, in the year of our Lord 2003.

Huckabee attended Southwestern Seminary in the early 1970s. He left the seminary to direct communications for evangelist James Robison, then a Southern Baptist. He later founded his own communications company, Cambridge Communications, and served as pastor to churches in Pine Bluff and Texarkana, Ark.

Huckabee was re-elected last year and will complete his term as governor in 2006. He has yet to indicate whether or not he will seek election to a national office.
