IMB launches CommissionStories magazine

[1]

RICHMOND, Va. (BP)–A new publication, CommissionStories, will be released this month by the International Mission Board.

The quarterly IMB publication will focus on today’s issues facing international missions, replacing The Commission magazine and To the ends of the earth. The Commission was first published in 1849; To the ends of the earth began in 2004.

The new publication by the Southern Baptist mission board will be published on newsprint instead of a slick magazine format and is designed to provide a more cost effective and focused approach to inspiring and educating readers about global missions, said Bill Bangham, the magazine’s editor.

“By moving to a tabloid we save money and are able to offer four issues a year rather than the two we produced with The Commission magazine,” Bangham said. “We wanted a publication that was leaner, more timely, less corporate. Since IMB is going through a time of transition in organization and strategy, this seemed the time to do it.

“The best thing we do is tell stories — and we have great stories to tell,” he added.

The first issue will feature articles on the economy, a look at missions in India since the 2004 tsunami and how Memphis-based outreach and churches are impacting the globe. Many of the feature stories in CommissionStories magazine will include multimedia packages posted on commissionstories.com.
