RICHMOND, Va. (BP)–William Hoffman Jr. has been named director of development efforts for the Southern Baptist International Mission Board [2] in Richmond, Va.

Hoffman, former director of annual and planned giving at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, will oversee consultations with Southern Baptists who want to name the IMB as a beneficiary in wills, trusts and bequests. Such estate planning tools generate enough money each year to support more than 500 of the International Mission Board’s 4,976 missionaries.

He also will coordinate promotion of the Lottie Moon [3] Christmas Offering through cross-office, cross-department and cross-agency teams.

“Billy Hoffman is a development professional who knows Southern Baptists and understands the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering as our time-tested foundation of support for international missions,” said Larry Cox, vice president of the IMB’s office of mobilization. “He is experienced in working with individuals in planning their estates and sharing their financial resources for kingdom work.”

Prior to joining the seminary staff, Hoffman served as pastor of Yantis (Texas) First Baptist Church and New Life Baptist Church in Cooper, Texas. He is a graduate of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall and Southwestern. Hoffman was born in Orange, Texas, and is married to the former Ruth Atkinson.

“We are delighted that Billy Hoffman is joining the IMB as director of development,” said IMB President Jerry Rankin. “With extensive experience in institutional development work, he is well-qualified to guide our efforts in accessing foundations and building relationships with supporters on behalf of missions in the 21st century.”
