Indiana Baptists launch exec. direc. search

[1]

INDIANAPOLIS (BP)–The State Convention of Baptists in Indiana has announced that its search process for a new executive director has begun.

A profile of potential candidates, posted on the convention’s website, www.scbi.org, says the search committee is looking for a visionary leader with a passion “to take the cross to the crossroads” and develop partnerships at all levels of Southern Baptist life.

The potential candidate must “understand where SCBI is; how we got here; and how we need to move forward” and be able to define a vision and implement an action plan to follow the vision, the profile says. The candidate must be able to find proper team members to accomplish the vision and have a clear sense of calling to lead the SCBI.

A candidate also ought to “desire to see healthy disciples in healthy churches reproducing healthy disciples in healthy churches across Indiana,” as well as be a personal soul-winner, the profile says.

The State Convention of Baptists in Indiana was founded in 1958 and today has nearly 85,000 members in 425 churches, Steve Davidson, chairman of the SCBI Executive Board, told Baptist Press. The Executive Board’s Administrative Committee serves as the search committee.

The convention is seeking a replacement for Stephen P. Davis, who was named Midwest Region vice president for the North American Mission Board Feb. 9. Davis had served as SCBI executive director since 2003.

The website also notes the search committee is soliciting input from Indiana Baptists about the search through an online poll. Responses to the poll will be accepted through April 30.

The search committee statement on the website also requests prayer: “Your prayers are vital! … Please faithfully lift up to our faithful heavenly Father the Search Committee, Dr. Cecil Seagle (serving as Executive Director during the interim period), the SCBI staff and our next Executive Director.”

All referrals, resumes or input can be directed to the search committee by email through [email protected].
