James Bryant returns to Criswell as academic VP

DALLAS (BP)–James Bryant, the founding academic dean at Criswell College, has returned to the Dallas college as vice president for academic affairs.

In addition to his key role in launching the college in January 1971, Bryant also served as minister of evangelism and church organization at First Baptist Church in Dallas from 1968-73.

Bryant has returned to Criswell College after nine years at the University of Mobile as professor of religion. He was executive vice president and later president of Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta from 1991-93.

In 1973, Bryant left Criswell College to become pastor of Hoffmantown Baptist Church in Albuquerque, where he served until 1977. He was pastor of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in Fort Worth from 1977-82 and Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Fort Smith, Ark., from 1982-89.

Bryant holds a B.A. degree from Wheaton College and M. Div. and Th.D. in philosophy of religion degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.

He and his wife, Ruby, have two sons.
