AMARILLO, Texas (BP)–Stan Coffey, pastor of San Jacinto Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas, has announced his intention to nominate Terry Fox, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church of Wichita, Kan., to serve as president of the SBC Pastors’ Conference this June in Indianapolis.
“After much prayer and at the urging of pastors across the convention, especially those from the pioneer and Midwest areas of our work, I feel led of God to nominate Terry Fox,” Coffey told the Southern Baptist TEXAN, newsjournal of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention.
Coffey cited Fox’s outstanding record in church growth, mission giving, evangelism and Cooperative Program support. “Under his leadership, Immanuel Baptist has gone from 700 in attendance to 2,500 in attendance in just seven years. Total giving has tripled to over $5 million dollars annually, and the church has just completed a 3,100-seat worship center,” he added.
Fox currently serves as chairman of the North American Mission Board trustees and previously served two terms on the International Mission Board.
Fox gained national attention in 2002 for leading local opposition to homosexuals’ involvement in the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring organization.
