[1]ALBUQUERQUE (BP)–Mary Katherine “Kathy” Loudat, 47, died Thursday morning, March 8, at Manzano Del Sol Good Samaritan Village in Albuquerque, N.M., her home for the past seven years. She was badly injured and left incapacitated in an automobile collision in April 1991.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years, John, of Albuquerque, editor of the Baptist New Mexican newsjournal.
Loudat said his wife had been a faithful and supportive partner in ministry throughout their married life, including at the churches he served as pastor from 1979-93: Allens Point Baptist Church, Honey Grove, Texas; Claytonville First Baptist, Kress, Texas; South Seminole Baptist, Seminole, Texas; and First Baptist, Artesia, N.M.
She began playing the piano for church while in high school and served churches as an instrumentalist, vocalist, children’s and youth choir director, women’s missions leader, Sunday school and discipleship teacher, and church and associational Vacation Bible School director. She also was employed as a school accompanist and a private piano teacher.
Most notably, John Loudat recalled, she poured all that she could of herself into the lives of her children, whom he called tributes to her love and commitment.
The couple was profiled in a June 1998 article in HomeLife magazine published by LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention.
[2]A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 12, in First Baptist Church, Albuquerque, with pastor Steve Taylor and Baptist Convention of New Mexico Executive Director Claude Cone presiding. Music will be led by the music ministry leadership of First Baptist Church, Artesia, N.M.
French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, is handling arrangements. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Kathy Loudat Memorial Fund, New Mexico Baptist Foundation, P.O. Box 16560, Albuquerque, NM 87191-6560.
Other survivors include her daughters, Mary and Joni, of Albuquerque; father, Jerry Mann, of Narrows, Va.; sister, Joyce Veillon of Sulphur, La.; brother, Steve Mann of Alpharetta, Ga.; and grandmother, Robbie Mann, of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Beth Mann.
