Leathers named editor of Illinois Baptist paper

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (BP)–Michael W. Leathers, 38, has been named editor of the Illinois Baptist, according to Bob Wiley, executive director of Illinois Baptist State Association.
“Mike brings us a fresh perspective as well as a deep commitment to the purposes of IBSA. I believe Illinois Baptists will appreciate his approach,” Wiley said.
Since January 1998, Leathers has served as assistant editor of the newspaper and magazine of the Catholic Health Association in St. Louis.
Leathers and his wife, Tammy, are members of Bethel Baptist Church, Troy, Ill. They have one son, Geoffrey.
He has previously served in editorial positions with The Telegraph in Alton, Ill.; the Collinsville (Ill.) Herald; the Belleville (Ill.) News-Democrat; and Herald Publications in Mascoutah, Ill. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in communications from Judson College in Elgin, Ill.
Leathers will begin his duties with the Illinois Baptist on Nov. 30.
