LifeWay names Webb to pastor-staff; Mathis moves to division consultant

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Henry Webb, director of the discipleship and family leadership department at LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention, has been named director of LifeWay’s pastor-staff leadership department.
He succeeds Don R. Mathis, who will become a pastoral skills consultant in the office of Mike Miller, director of the church leadership group at LifeWay.
The pastor-staff leadership department is responsible for resources and services for the personal and professional development of pastors and other ministry staff persons.
Webb came to LifeWay in 1977 from Kalihi Baptist Church, Honolulu, where he was pastor for nine years. The author of “Deacons: Servant Models in the Church” and “Ingathering: Reclaiming Inactive Church Members,” Webb was editor of The Deacon magazine from 1977-80 and deacon ministry consultant in the church administration (now pastor-staff leadership) department from 1980-84. He served as planning coordinator in the discipleship training department from 1984-92.
Webb attended Oklahoma University, Norman; West Texas State University, Canyon; Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth; and holds the M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, Calif.
Mathis, director of the pastor-staff leadership department since 1996, is a native of Hopkinsville, Ky. He has been pastor of churches in Kentucky, including Crofton Baptist Church; Green River Baptist Church, Cromwell; Southside Baptist Church, Princeton; Central Baptist Church, Corbin; and Central Baptist in Winchester. He was executive director-treasurer of the West Virginia Convention of Southern Baptists from December 1991 until February 1994.
He was president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention in 1985-86. He also has been president of the pastors’ conference and a member and president of the executive board. Nationally, he has been a member of Southern Baptist committees, a trustee of the Sunday School Board (now LifeWay) and a member of the board of overseers of Boyce Bible School at Southern Seminary, among others.
He has written for a variety of denominational publications, including leadership materials produced by LifeWay.
