LifeWay’s new pastor section to offer concentrated resources

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention has established a new area to offer consultative and product resources directed specifically to pastors.
The “pastor section” will include consultants for pastors and deacons and editorial personnel to produce resources to meet their needs, according to Henry Webb, director of LifeWay’s pastor-staff leadership department.
“This new organization will allow for greater focus on these key leaders,” Webb said. “The skills and competencies required for effective pastors are unique to that critical leadership role. The pastor section will give concentrated effort to assisting and standing alongside those serving in pastoral ministry.”
Mark Marshall, who has been a leader development specialist in LifeWay’s discipleship and family leadership department, will manage the section. Previously he was a leadership development consultant in LifeWay’s Sunday school group.
“Mark Marshall grew up in a pastor’s home and during his 11 years as a pastor of a local church he was heavily involved in leadership development groups for pastors both as a participant and as a facilitator,” Webb said. “He has a passion for developing Kingdom leaders and a heart that beats with the heart of pastors.”
Marshall, who was pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga., prior to joining LifeWay in 1997, said, “I believe the pastor is the key to health and growth in the local church. Our vision is to strengthen and assist these servants in any way we can.”
Before he served at Calvary, he was pastor at Vashti Baptist Church in Bellevue, Texas; intern to young adults at First Baptist Church, Dallas; and minister to youth at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Duluth, Ga.
He holds the B.S. degree from Georgia State University, Atlanta, and the M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas.
