ORLANDO, Fla. (BP)–Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary trustee chairman Carl Weiser reported on the progress of the presidential search committee during the seminary’s June 14 alumni luncheon in Orlando, Fla.
Acknowledging that the process has been slow at times during the last eight months, Weiser, of Lynchburg, Va., said the committee has narrowed its search for God’s man. “We have a sense that we are on that trail and that we have gotten close,” Weiser said, while adding that an announcement should not be expected before August.
Weiser urged continued prayer for the committee, which is seeking a successor for Mark Coppenger, who led the seminary from 1995-99.
“I look forward to the day when we can make a public announcement,” Weiser said.
The committee met with Midwestern’s faculty for over an hour in April, Weiser said, and they “helped me help our committee” through their feedback.
Weiser also commended the seminary’s interim president, Michael Whitehead, as “the man for the hour,” praising his integrity, competence and wisdom. Whitehead is the seminary’s vice president for business affairs and former legal counsel with the SBC Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission.
