Ministers’ wives conference set for June 13 in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. (BP)–The 45th annual Southern Baptist Ministers’ Wives Conference will be held Tuesday, June 13, at the Omni Rosen Hotel.

This year’s theme is, “Women of Influence,” and will feature Vonette Bright, the wife of Bill Bright and cofounder of Campus Crusade for Christ. Contemporary Christian vocalist Alicia Williamson will perform in concert.

Tickets for the luncheon are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Tickets can be ordered by calling (318) 752-6147.

Vonette Bright and her husband, Bill, launched Campus Crusade for Christ on the campus of UCLA in 1951. Today, Campus Crusade operates 50 different ministries involving a fulltime staff of 17,000, plus trained volunteer staff of more than 200,000.

In 1971 the Great Commission Prayer Crusade was officially established under Vonette Bright’s leadership.

The Brights, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998, have two children and four grandchildren.

The 1999-2000 ministers’ wives officers are: president, Joyce Rogers, wife of Adrian Rogers, pastor at Bellevue Baptist Church, Cordova, Tenn.; vice president, Diane Strack, wife of Jay Strack, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, Orlando; recording secretary/treasurer, Leigh Lowery, wife of Fred Lowery, pastor of First Baptist Church, Bossier City, La.; corresponding secretary, Judy Robinson, wife of James Robinson, pastor of First Baptist Church, Durant, Okla.

The annual ministers’ wives luncheon is open to all wives of ministers — pastors, staff members, chaplains, missionaries and denominational workers.
