Ministries hold events for SBC attendees

HOUSTON (BP) — Several Christian ministries will offer events ranging from global missions to the Southern Baptist Convention’s future for messengers and others attending the SBC’s June 11-12 annual meeting in Houston.

Among them:

— The Fellowship of Baptist World Ministries will host a breakfast June 10 from 7-8:30 a.m. in Room 346A/B on Level 3 of the Hilton Americas, 1600 Lamar St. International Mission Board President Tom Elliff will speak on global missions. For ticket information, email Eric Ramsey, one of the fellowship’s former presidents, at [email protected]. The Baptist Fellowship of World Ministries (http://www.fbwm.net/) is an association of world mission organizations who work in covenant with the International Mission Board to carry the Gospel throughout the world.

— 9Marks, a ministry to help pastors grow healthy churches, will hold panel discussions Monday and Tuesday, June 10-11, from 9-11:30 p.m. in General Assembly A on Level 3 of the George R. Brown Convention Center. The June 10 discussion will focus on the evangelization of North America, featuring Kevin Ezell, president of the North American Mission Board; Matt Chandler, lead pastor of The Village Church in Highland Village, Texas; and Mark Dever, senior pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., and co-founder of the 9Marks ministry. The June 11 discussion will focus on the current state of the SBC and will feature Dever; Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary President Daniel Akin; Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President R. Albert Mohler Jr.; and The Church at Brook Hills pastor David Platt from Birmingham, Ala. Admission is free.

— Baptist21 (B21) will host a luncheon and panel discussion on “Pressing Issues in the SBC,” during the June 11 SBC lunch break in General Assembly Theater B on Level 3 of the George R. Brown Convention Center. Panelists will be Southeastern Seminary President Daniel Akin; Matt Carter, pastor of preaching and vision at The Austin Stone Community Church in Austin, Texas; Southern Seminary President R. Albert Mohler Jr.; Russell Moore, who will assume office June 1 as president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission; and David Platt of The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham. Registration at www.BaptistTwentyOne.com is $10 through May 31 and $13 thereafter. Founded by younger Southern Baptists to address issues relevant to Southern Baptists in the 21st century, members of B21 describe their aim as “embracing the past, working in the present and cooperating for the future.”

— Founders Ministries will hold its Founders Fellowship Breakfast June 11 from 6:30–9 a.m. in Room 352D/E/F on Level 3 of the George R. Brown Convention Center. Voddie Baucham, pastor of preaching at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Texas, will speak on “The Reformation We Need.” Tickets are $20 before May 15 and $25 thereafter, with registration online at www.founders.org/conferences/ffb/. Registration deadline is May 30, with no refunds after the deadline. Founders Ministries, according to its website, engages in “teaching and encouragement promoting both doctrine and devotion expressed in the Doctrines of Grace and their experiential application to the local church, particularly in the areas of worship and witness.”

— The apologetics ministry Answers in Genesis will hold an informational talk for pastors on its new project, The Ark Encounter, on Tuesday, June 11, from 7:30–9 a.m. in the Lanier Ballroom A on Level 4 of the Hilton Americas, 1600 Lamar St. Former SBC President Johnny Hunt will host the meeting featuring Ken Ham, founder of Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky. The free event will detail Answers in Genesis’ plans to build a full-scale model of Noah’s Ark on a 100-acre plot 30 miles south of the museum in northern Kentucky.
