Morris Abernathy named LifeWay visuals coordinator

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Morris Abernathy, director of photography at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, since 1988, has been named corporate visuals coordinator for LifeWay Christian Resources, effective July 1.
His responsibilities will include photo coordination and editing for LifeWay’s national publication, Facts & Trends; employee communications; and the agency’s Baptist Press news and feature articles. He also will coordinate visuals for LifeWay facilities, exhibits and displays.
Abernathy, 43, also is a news and sports photographer for United Press International. Included in his photo coverage for the news service have been the Branch Davidian standoff between David Koresh and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Waco, Texas; the bombing of Oklahoma City’s Murrah Federal Building; and the aftermath of the recent tornado that leveled Moore, Okla.
He is an instructor of photography for both Dallas Baptist University and Southwestern Seminary. He has been on the faculty for the Ouachita Baptist University annual photojournalism workshop since 1991 and has been co-director for the Southwestern Seminary Photojournalism Conference since 1992.
“Morris Abernathy brings to LifeWay an incredible combination of professional and technical skills paired with a strong Christian ministry background,” said Linda Lawson, director of LifeWay’s communications department.
A native of North Carolina, he earned the B.A. degree from the University of Central Florida, Orlando. He holds the M.A. degree in religious education and the M.A. degree in communications from Southwestern Seminary.
He is a member of the National Press Photographers Association, Christians in Photojournalism and the Baptist Communicators Association.
He and his wife, Sandy, director of Buckner ElderCare Services, a subsidiary of Buckner Baptist Benevolences of Dallas, are the parents of Ashley, 16, and Jonathan, 14. They are members of Southcliff Baptist Church, Fort Worth.
