ALPHARETTA, Ga. (BP)–Robert E. (Bob) Reccord, president of the North American Mission Board, has been appointed to serve on the National Religious Broadcasters board of directors.
NRB Chairman/CEO Glenn Plummer said Reccord had been appointed unanimously by the NRB board.
“We are really grateful that Bob has agreed to serve by completing the unexpired term of our beloved brother, Dr. Bill Bright, who went home to be with the Lord last year,” Plummer said, adding that Reccord “brings great experience, spiritual maturity and wisdom to the board.”
Reccord said he considered Bright a friend and mentor, stating, “Bill understood that in a day when more people consume Christian media than attend church, the work of NRB could not be more important. I look forward to helping NRB boldly embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. Like Bill’s heart, I desire my heart to be a Kingdom heart.”
Among other prominent Southern Baptists also serving on the NRB board are Richard Land, James Merritt, Charles Stanley and Tim LaHaye.
Reccord, as president of the North American Mission Board, has oversight of FamilyNet, a 24-hour Christian television network subsidiary that also produces five weekly radio programs for national syndication. Reccord also is featured on the weekly radio program “Strength for Living,” heard each week on 441 radio stations with an audience of 430,000.
Reccord became NAMB’s president in June 1997. Previously he served as senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Norfolk, Va., from 1992-97, and Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, Fla., 1987-92. He and his wife, Cheryl, have three children: Christy, Bryan and Ashley.
