New study Bible to help teens in ‘finding their own answers’

[1]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–A Bible challenging teenagers to really think about the truths in Scripture has been released by Holman Bible Publishers.

The TruthQuest Inductive Student Bible is directed exclusively to the teenage market, said David R. Shepherd, vice president of Holman, a division of LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Conceptualized by veteran youth minister Steve Keels, who oversees youth program development at Good Shepherd Community Church in Portland, Ore., this new product is a result of working up close with students for 20 years and finding out what resources best facilitate their spiritual growth.

“Time has taught me that teenagers are extremely bright and don’t like to be patronized. They learn more by discovery than by being told. TruthQuest is designed to lead teenagers into the discovery of biblical truths,” Keels said.

Unique features of the TruthQuest Inductive Student Bible include:

— perspective-building introductions and time lines for each book.

[2]

— one-page biographies of major biblical characters.

— special information sections that easily relate biblical history, trivia and traditions to the reader.

Study questions without answers are designed to lead teens deeper into the Scriptures and activate their inductive reasoning. Questions are placed where the answers can be found and are followed by wide-lined margins for personal note taking.

“By finding their own answers to study questions and writing personal thoughts in the margins, teenagers will take ownership in the Bible and in Christianity. It will be the truth they have discovered themselves,” Keels said.

“We plan to make TruthQuest a name that will become synonymous with quality Bible study products for students,” Shepherd said. “A complete product line is in the works, including Bible study guides and theme-based books. The new Bible product has already caught the attention of ministries that specialize in reaching kids.”

International speaker Luis Palau and Willow Creek Community Church’s Bo Boshears have both expressed interest in the TruthQuest Bible for use in association with their respective youth crusades and youth pastor seminars.

The TruthQuest Inductive Student Bible is available in paperback, hardcover and leather-bound editions at LifeWay Christian stores and other bookstores.
