DUBLIN, Ohio (BP)–Messengers to the Ohio Baptist Convention meeting in Dublin, expressed appreciation to LifeWay Christian Resources for returning two LifeWay Christian Bookstores to Ohio. In a resolution, they thanked LifeWay for returning the bookstores to Toledo after a four-year absence.
They also expressed support to LifeWay in its “efforts to establish stores in metropolitan areas such as Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Dayton,” and encouraged Ohio Southern Baptists to support the LifeWay stores.
Ron Mitchell, pastor of First Baptist Church, Huber Heights, was elected convention president. Michael Smith, assistant pastor, First Baptist Church, Pickerington, was elected first vice president; Bob Mackey, pastor, Parma Baptist Church, second vice president; Pat Ingram, secretary, Southwestern/Miami Valley Baptist Associations, recording secretary; and Faye Rodgers, secretary, First Southern Baptist Church, Canton, assistant recording secretary.
Messengers adopted a 1999 budget of $7,164,812. Of this amount $5,471,856, or 76 percent, will come from Ohio churches. Of the Ohio contributions, 40 percent will go to the SBC Cooperative Program. This is the same percentage as last year.
Next year’s convention will be at the Clarion Hotel, Toledo, West Gate, on Nov. 3-5, 1999.
