[1]NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Oliver North’s first novel, “Mission Compromised,” was described by a New York Times writer Aug. 27 as a “Tom Clancy-esque tale in which the hero is a fast-rising Marine officer on temporary assignment to the White House.”
The article, “Oliver North Tells a Tall Tale of White House Intrigue” by Philip Shenon, appeared atop The Times’ arts section. Mission Compromised is the first of a three-book deal North has signed with Broadman & Holman Publishers, the trade book division of LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The combat-decorated retired Marine and host of a nationally syndicated radio talk show said the book is full of Christian themes, especially relating to the lead character’s marriage. Consequently, North told The Times he chose to go with Broadman & Holman because he feared a larger publishing house would disregard the book’s religious dimensions.
Mission Compromised, with a first printing of 350,000 copies, has risen to the list of top 20 best-selling books on Amazon.com. On Sept. 2, North kicks off a 30-city tour to promote the 605-page novel in a bus colorfully emblazoned with the book’s title.
