Pastor Nelson Price to chair board of Fellowship of Christian Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BP)–Nelson Price, pastor of Roswell Street Baptist Church, Marietta, Ga., and a former Georgia Baptist Convention president, has been elected chairman of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ national board of trustees.
FCA, based in Kansas City, Mo., is international in scope with more than 950 employees.
The organization’s ministries include 180 summer camps attended by more than 16,000 students; 7,200 “huddle” groups with 300,000-plus members in schools across America; a successful drug prevention program, “One Way to Play Drug Free (OW2P);” inner-city missions; and an international ministry with contacts in 130 foreign countries.
Price, the first minister to chair the international board, succeeds Gary Cuozzo, a former NFL quarterback. Other previous chairmen include Tom Landry, former coach of the Dallas Cowboys; Tom Osborne, former head football coach of the University of Nebraska; Grant Teaff, director of the Football Coaches of America Association and former Baylor University head football coach; and Dick Schultz, former head of the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Price, a letterman in basketball and track as a student at Southeastern Louisiana University, has been pastor of the 5,000-member Marietta congregation since 1965.
Price said FCA hopes to expand its “huddle groups” to approximately 30,000 schools by 2002. Having served first on the board early in the 1980s, he noted a sense of appreciation for the a time when the organization is enjoying the most rapid growth in its history.
“I have always enjoyed sports and being around athletes. Combining this interest with a living personal faith makes for an exhilarating combination,” Price said. “That is what it has done in my life and in the lives of countless persons all over the nation.”
