Pastors’ Conf. nominee announced

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP)–Ben Mandrell, senior pastor of Englewood Baptist Church in Jackson, Tenn., will be nominated as treasurer of the Southern Baptist Pastors’ Conference during its June 21-22 meeting in Louisville, Ky.

Mandrell, who has served the congregation since 2002, will be nominated by Steve Gaines, senior pastor of the Memphis-area Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn.

“I have known Ben for several years. He is a wonderful preacher and also a great pastor,” Gaines told Baptist Press. “He has preached for us at Bellevue on several occasions and our people love him. Ben is one of our finest young pastors in the SBC and he will serve us well in this important leadership position.

“The average weekly Sunday School attendance at Englewood is 1,650 and the average weekly worship attendance is 2,222. They have two Sunday School hours and three worship services. Their yearly budget is $4.1 million,” Gaines added. “The attendance for their Easter service this year at the Oman Arena was approximately 4,700.”

Mandrell became senior pastor of the Jackson congregation in April 2007 after serving as director of the church’s college ministry and as campus minister at Union University in Jackson. He previously was on staff with Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark., K-Life Ministries of Orlando, Fla., and Sterling Christian School in Sterling, Ill.

A graduate of Anderson (Ind.) University, Mandrell also holds a master of divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He and his wife Lynley have four children: Ava Elizabeth, Max Anderson, Miles Andrew and Jackson David.

Information from the 2008 Annual Church Profile for Englewood Baptist Church showed 64 baptisms and primary worship service attendance of 2,026, and giving of $161,166, or 4.19 percent, through the Cooperative Program on total undesignated receipts of $3,845,168. The report indicated gifts of $55,496 for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions and $15,045 for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions.
