JONESBORO, Ga. (BP)–Well-known Christian author Phillip Yancey will be among the featured speakers at the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Religious Education Association, March 31-April 1 at First Baptist Church, Nashville, Tenn.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Church First. Designed to Change Lives,” exploring the design behind Christian education in the church.

“We want to help Christian educators understand that we need to develop process driven ideas instead of program driven ideas,” said Bobby Bragg, minister of education at First Baptist Church, Jonesboro, Ga., and SBREA president.

Yancey will discuss Jesus and his leadership style in a session titled, “Leadership with a Design.”

German author Christian Schwarz, another featured speaker, will discuss “Natural Church Development.” Schwarz has surveyed more than 1,000 churches on five continents on what makes a healthy church.

In addition to the sessions, there will be a reception to honor Merle T. Basden, who is retiring as the SBREA’s executive director.
