REVIEW: ‘Tongue in Cheek’ works for Relient K

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Okay, be honest. Can you remember the last time you heard about a Christian band named after a car singing tunes about Mr. Ed, the Sadie Hawkins dance or a slogan from a makeup company?

That’s what I thought.

Well, for fans of the Christian alternative band Relient K, it’s business as usual.

Relient K is back with their sophomore album “The Anatomy of the Tongue in Cheek” from Gotee Records. They offer a different sound to Christian music — rock and roll with a punk edge and hints of British pop flung in for fun.

The album already shows significant maturity from their first self-titled CD, offering a different taste and style from song to song, which makes it easy to listen through.

The lyrical element has developed too, addressing some serious Christian issues in non-confrontational ways. However, the band manages to still get its point across without compromising the message. Relient K also added a couple of worship-style songs to bind the package together.

I recommend this CD to anyone who is looking for a good time, whether they are fans of this music or not. It is definitely worth a listen.
