NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Sam House, an 18-year employee of LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention, was named editor-in-chief of HomeLife magazine, effective June 1.

“Sam has had years of experience in writing and editing and he has a passion for impacting families,” said Selma Wilson, director of LifeWay’s discipleship magazine department.

“He has been instrumental in leading us to embrace spiritual transformation as a model for all we do at LifeWay,” Wilson said. “I am confident that God will use Sam’s gifts and passion to impact families in a very strong way through the pages of HomeLife magazine.”

House will become HomeLife’s sixth editor since the family magazine was founded in 1947. He follows Jon Walker who resigned in March to pursue writing and other ministry opportunities. Walker’s editorial columns will continue appearing in HomeLife through August because of the magazine’s publication schedule.

For the past seven years, House, 47, has been serving as leadership specialist in LifeWay’s discipleship and family group. Working closely with Henry Blackaby, House’s primary responsibility has been to provide coordination for the “Experiencing God” line of products and serve as facilitator of the Experiencing God advisory team.

House previously worked in LifeWay’s discipleship youth section as a design editor where he was responsible for The Youth Disciple periodical, editing books and training adult youth leaders.

With a monthly circulation of 500,000, HomeLife is one of LifeWay’s highest circulation magazines.

“I can’t think of anything more important than growing and encouraging Christian families,” House said about his new position. “HomeLife has the opportunity every month to help families recognize how God is working in and through their homes.”

House, a St. Louis native, received a master of divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a bachelor of arts from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. He has served on church staffs in Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee.

He is married to Polly House, editor of Facts & Trends, LifeWay’s corporate communications magazine. They are the parents of two sons, Tyler, 13, and Travis, 11.
