SBC staffers among top winners of Baptist communicator awards


SAN DIEGO (BP)–Communications workers at three Southern Baptist entities were named the top winners in five divisions of the Baptist Communicators Association’s annual Wilmer C. Fields Awards Competition.

The awards, selected from entries submitted by 113 BCA members, were presented April 24 in connection with the association’s annual meeting in San Diego.

The top awards presented in the competition’s seven divisions were:

— Arthur S. Davenport Award for exceptional achievement in public relations: Denise Cook, FamilyNet, of the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board’s broadcast communications group, for “TruthQuest: California.”

— M.E. Dodd Award for exceptional achievement in audio-visual communications: R. Martin Coleman and Bernie Hargis, FamilyNet, for “Saints and Strangers.”

— Frank Burkhalter Award for exceptional achievement in newswriting: Sherri Brown, Georgia Baptist Convention, for “The Foster Parent Trap.”

— Leonard Holloway Award for exceptional achievement in feature writing: Chris Turner, Southern Baptist International Mission Board, for “Gentle Perseverance.”

— Fon H. Scofield Award for exceptional achievement in publication photography: James Yates, International Mission Board, for “No Place for a Woman.”

— Albert McClellan Award for exceptional achievement in print media and design: Baylor University’s office of public relations for “Baylor University Vision 2012.”

— Exceptional Achievement in Interactive Communications: LifeWay Christian Resources’ advertising-promotion department for “‘Fuge 2003.”
