SBC to air TV ad during BCS games

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–The Southern Baptist Convention has produced a television infomercial that will run in targeted markets during prime college football bowl games over Jan. 2-4.

The ad was developed by the SBC Executive Committee to highlight some of the national SBC ministries funded through the Cooperative Program, Southern Baptists’ method of supporting missions and ministry efforts of state and regional conventions and the SBC. Using the emphasis, “Making a difference in Jesus’ name through our Cooperative Program,” the infomercial spotlights SBC efforts to minister to “the least of these” around the globe, according to Bob Rodgers, the vice president for Cooperative Program with the SBC Executive Committee.

“The effort is not a campaign to applaud what we do in the name of Jesus,” he said. “However, it is an initiative to educate ourselves and others about what we achieve together as Southern Baptists in the name of Jesus that we could not without the Cooperative Program.”

The television spots will show in Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, Raleigh, Richmond and Washington, D.C., mostly as part of the Fiesta Bowl extravaganza.

The Nashville spot will be aired as part of the Orange Bowl and Rose Bowl games, and Atlanta has both Fiesta Bowl and Orange Bowl spots. All others will appear during the Fiesta Bowl which airs beginning at 4:30 p.m., Jan. 2. Coverage of the Orange Bowl starts at 8 p.m. on Jan. 3, and of the Rose Bowl at 8 p.m., Jan. 4. All three bowl games will be televised by ABC; start times are referenced to Eastern Time.

The ad also debuts a website, www.CaringPeopleSBC.net, which provides more information about the featured Southern Baptist ministries.
