Seminaries to greet alumni, friends in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (BP) — Alumni and friends of Southern Baptists’ six seminaries will gather Wednesday, June 15, in St. Louis to hear updates from the campuses and renew friendships with classmates and seminary faculty and staff.

The noontime luncheons will be held in conjunction with the June 14-15 annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in America’s Center in St. Louis.

A list of the seminaries’ plans, in alphabetical order, follows:

GOLDEN GATE — Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary will host its annual alumni and friends luncheon after the morning session of the SBC annual meeting on Wednesday, June 15, in Rooms 263-264 of America’s Center. President Jeff Iorg will report on the activities of the past year, including the relocation process of the seminary’s primary campus to the Southern California city of Ontario. Additionally, the seminary’s distinguished alumni awards will be presented. Tickets are $10 each. MIDWESTERN — Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s luncheon will be highlighted by an update from the Kansas City campus by President Jason Allen. It also will feature a presentation titled “God, Gender, and the Gospel: True Answers to Tough Questions.” In partnership with the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood, the luncheon panel discussion, featuring Allen, Owen Strachan and others, will tackle the toughest issues on the topics of gender, sexuality and ethics. NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary’s luncheon for alumni and friends will be held after the SBC annual meeting’s morning session Wednesday in the Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel’s Majestic Ballroom D (Level Two). NOBTS President Chuck Kelley will update attendees on the previous year’s developments and activities. The distinguished alumni for 2016 will be named and national alumni officers will be elected. Tickets are $20 per person if purchased by May 26 (the last day of online sales), $25 at the convention. SOUTHEASTERN — Alumni and friends of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary will experience what life is like serving Christ around the world during the seminary’s luncheon Wednesday in Rooms 222-227 of America’s Center, following the SBC annual meeting’s morning session. This year’s luncheon will break the mold, providing a one-of-a-kind glimpse into the ministries of Southeastern alumni and students who boldly proclaim the Gospel wherever God calls them. Admission is free, and all donations collected at the event will go to the Larry and Jean Elliott Memorial Scholarship Fund to support SEBTS students who are called to take the Gospel to closed countries. SOUTHERN — Southern Baptist Theological Seminary will welcome alumni and friends for its annual luncheon at Wednesday, June 15, in Room 221 of America’s Center, following the SBC annual meeting’s morning session. Attendees will hear what God is doing in and through Southern Seminary from President R. Albert Mohler Jr. Tickets are $25 and are available for purchase on Southern Seminary’s website at sbts.edu/support/sbc-alumni-friends-luncheon and at the seminary’s booth in the SBC exhibit hall.

SOUTHWESTERN — Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s national alumni and friends luncheon on June 15 will be in the Marriott St. Louis Grand Hotel’s Landmark Ballroom 1-4, following the SBC annual meeting’s morning session. SWBTS President Paige Patterson will present the seminary’s annual report and the 2016 distinguished alumnus awards to Daniel Sanchez, professor of missions at SWBTS, and Ted Traylor, pastor of Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Fla.
