
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP)–James A. Smith Sr. is the new director of news and information at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., effective Jan. 27.
Smith joins the Southern public relations staff from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo., where he was director of news and information since 1995.
A native of Norfolk, Va., Smith was the first Washington staff member of the Southern Baptist Christian Life Commission, serving as director of government relations from 1989-1995.
Before joining the Christian Life Commission, Smith worked two years as director of communications at the Republican Study Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Smith earned the bachelor of science degree from Dallas Baptist University and is enrolled in Southern Seminary’s master of divinity program.
Smith and his wife, Linda, have been married for nearly ten years. They are parents to an eight?year?old daughter, Lauren, and a five?year? old son, James Andrew Jr. The Smiths are members of North Pointe Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo.
