LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP)–Roy L. Honeycutt, former president and chancellor of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, remains hospitalized after open heart surgery April 1 and is facing difficulties recovering, family members have acknowledged, asking for prayers on his behalf.
In an April 13 letter Southern President R. Albert Mohler Jr. sent to staff, faculty and friends of the seminary, he wrote, “I know Dr. Honeycutt and his family would appreciate your concern and prayers. … As you can imagine, June Honeycutt is also bearing a special burden during this critical time. She has been such a faithful partner to Dr. Honeycutt all these years, and I know she would appreciate your encouragement as well.” The letter is posted on the seminary’s web site (www.sbts.edu).
Honeycutt’s condition does not allow visitors or personal phone calls. He is able to receive correspondence at Norton Hospital, 5H Room 6, Louisville, KY, 40202.
Honeycutt was Southern Seminary’s eighth president, serving from 1982-93. President Mohler reported Honeycutt’s wife and family request the prayer support of their many friends across the country and around the world.
