Southern taps Norman Miller as news & information director

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP)–Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., has named Norman O. Miller, a former staff writer for the Southern Baptist International Mission Board, as news and information director for the seminary’s public relations office.
Miller, who joined Southern’s staff Oct. 5, replaces James A. Smith Sr., who became the seminary’s director of public relations in August 1998.
Before joining the IMB’s editorial department in Richmond, Va., in 1995, Miller served part time as a writer and editor in the public relations department of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., where he pursued a degree in Christian education. From 1987-92 Miller held similar duties at the Criswell College in Dallas, where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies.
Smith said Miller is “a gifted writer who has committed himself to the task of Christian journalism. His passion for missions and experience in covering the work of Southern Baptist missions around the world bring a valuable richness to our office of public relations. We are delighted God has called Norman to Southern Seminary as news and information director.”
Said Miller, “While my three years in Richmond were as instructive for me as they were fruitful, I am now even more challenged and privileged to serve an institution that will hold significant influence in the training of God’s servants, be they today’s pastors or tomorrow’s missionaries.”
