SuperDude adventures come to life in live-action video

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–A new, live-action video chronicling the adventures of SuperDude and the CP Squad has been completed and released by the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention.

SuperDude and the CP Squad was filmed last fall and is available to churches and individuals as a ministry tool to teach boys and girls about CP missions. The one-hour show features a full cast, a colorful set, and special effects.

“We are excited about the new SuperDude video which is included on the CP Video Trio. When used with the Leaders Guide and Activities Book it becomes a stand alone, user-friendly resource any size church can use,” said John Kyle, director of Cooperative Program Development.

The film was produced by Billabong Films, based in Nashville, Tenn. Stephen McGuffey, drama director at Westwood Baptist Church in Cleveland, Tenn., designed the SuperDude set.

SuperDude and the CP Squad was written by Todd Starnes, assistant editor of Baptist Press, the national news service of the SBC.

The SuperDude story line: David Hicks, an ordinary Southern Baptist teenager, wins a Bible Drill competition. His prize is a Bible that hasn’t been opened in 700 years. When he opens the Bible and begins to read Scripture, David receives a visit from an angel named Fred who gives David the opportunity to tell the world about Jesus Christ through CP Missions.

David joins forces with Andy the Faithful Sidekick, Katie and Tater, as they battle the evil Dr. Dudley and show kids how they can take the gospel of Christ to the world.

“One of the great things about SuperDude is that it is fun and contains a good Bible lesson,” Kyle said. “It encourages the kids to work together and remain humble. It also reminds them that our true strength comes from God. The main CP Missions connection comes as they work through the activities book as part of the lessons that follow the video.”

Other features on the Video Trio include Video Missionary Moments, taken from the pages of the popular prayer guide of the same name and the Passport Video Companion that can also be a stand-alone feature or used in conjunction with the printed piece, CP Your Passport to Missions.

For more information on how individuals or churches can order the SuperDude video, Kyle said state Cooperative Program departments could be contacted or the national CP Missions office reached at 1-800-722-9407.
