COLLIERSVILLE, Tenn. (BP) – Kirk Baptist Church gathered as a grieving body of believers on Sunday morning (Sept. 8). The church’s pastor, Bobby Mullins, and his wife Wanda were killed due to a car accident Sept. 3.
“They were hit, but left the road, rolled about four or five times. My dad passed on impact,” their son Brandon Mullins told WREG-TV Sept. 6.
Wanda died Sept. 5, according the obituary.
The Mullinses served in churches across Tennessee and Mississippi for decades. Bobby was also the host of the weekly TV show “A Fresh Start,” which aired across Tennessee.
“I know this is a different-feeling Sunday for all of us,” said worship leader Phil Campbell as the Sunday service started Sept. 8. Campbell said though the week has been very challenging, he is thankful the pastor and his wife were spiritually prepared for such a tragedy. He reflected on the many times the pastor had called on the church to look for victory in any situation through Jesus Christ.
Campbell asked for the congregation to continue to pray for the church and for the Mullins family.
The Mullinses were natives of Memphis and were married in 1980, according to Bobby’s website. He graduated from Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary and had served as the national alumni president from 2004-2006.
Bobby served on the 2001 SBC Committee on Committees and on the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board executive committee from 2006-2011.
“C.T. Studd wrote, ‘Only one life, twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.’ In many ways one could say this was the personal mission for Dr. Bobby and Wanda Mullins,” the couple’s obituary says.
The Memphis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the couple.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Sept. 12 at Ridgeway Baptist Church in Memphis.
