RENO, Nev. (BP)–Thane Barnes has resigned as executive director-treasurer of the Nevada Baptist Convention to accept a call as senior pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Glen Burnie, Md.

Barnes has led the state’s Baptists since 2002.

Frank Bushey, president of the Nevada Baptist Convention, said in a news release, “It has been a joy working with Dr. Barnes for these eight years. He has led our convention to start new churches and strengthen existing churches in Nevada. He has also helped us develop a wonderful, strategic partnership with the Florida Baptist Convention. We certainly thank him for his ministry among us. I know I speak for all Nevada Baptists in wishing him and Susan Godspeed for the days ahead.”

The news release from the Nevada convention noted, “Over the past year, Dr. Barnes has felt a call back into the pastorate.”

In his letter of resignation to Nevada Baptists, Barnes wrote in part, “It has been very special to get a chance to work with the fine pastors and church leaders across this state. To be able to work with the staff assembled by our state Executive Board every day has been a joyful season of ministry for me.” Barnes also stated, “I cannot thank you enough for your friendship, support and love. The continuing ministry of the Nevada Baptist Convention will not crumble … you will be in my prayers!”

Prior to leading the state convention, Barnes had served as senior pastor of Green Valley Baptist Church in Henderson, Nev., and two other churches, one in Tucson, Ariz., and one in Littleton, Colo. He is a graduate of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and Grand Canyon University in Arizona.
