NASHVILLE (BP) – He’s had a knack for getting into jams that leave others ripe with frustration for over a decade. That said, his antics give the morning some flavor even if they leave one question unanswered.

Why is he so good?

The character of Peach has been a Lifeway regular since 2012, when his videos bloomed for the first time at CentriKid and FUGE camps. It was supposed to only be for that season, but kids and parents developed a taste for his misadventures and so Peach became rooted in the camp experience.

Portrayed by a performer, whose real identity remains a mystery, in a top-half costume in the shape of – you guessed it – a peach, next summer will be the character’s 15th for Lifeway. Although there were no camps during 2020 due to COVID, Peach made an appearance at that summer’s night of worship livestream.

He has been a focal point for CentriKid since 2014, with his “I Can’t Wait” video segments preceding the morning worship. As described by Micheal Walley, CentriKid creative producer and writer of the Peach scripts, it’s easy to see why the character connects with campers.

“Peach is very confident, but often not aware of his surroundings. He is positive and fun, and a quite bit clumsy,” said Walley. “He really gets himself into some interesting situations! Kids love physical humor, so we try to incorporate as many falls, physical gags and stunts as possible during Peach’s adventures.

“While there is no biblical content in any Peach video, I think Peach’s silliness and fun reflects the energy of kids that come to camp. By bringing fun and making them laugh first thing in the morning, it helps wake them up and be comfortable in the camp setting.”

Walley is also the team leader for Event Creative, through which he leads a team of creative producers for all Lifeway’s camps – FUGE, Student Life, Student Life Kids and CentriKid.

The Peach videos connect to the camp theme for that summer, like discovering stuff, going beyond the surface and, most recently, searching for Sasquatch. “The Storyteller” theme for 2026 placed filming for Peach’s videos at the Southern Baptist Historical and Archives Library in Nashville in October.

In addition to camp videos, Peach is prone to show up in social media appearances and on items in the camp store. But his appeal doesn’t look to be overripe anytime soon.

“Like Mickey Mouse and Kermit the Frog, Peach’s look has changed quite a bit over the years as we have worked with different costume shops to build the character out,” said Walley. “It’s so cool to hear kids at camp chant, ‘Peach! Peach! Peach!’ when the video starts each day.”
