Tim Norton to head Lord’s Day Alliance

ATLANTA (BP)–Timothy Alan Norton, business manager for The Christian Index since 1996, has been elected executive director of The Lord’s Day Alliance of the United States.

The 112-year old ecumenical organization is devoted to promoting observance of Sunday as the Lord’s Day. Its offices are located in Atlanta.

Before joining the Georgia Baptist newsjournal’s staff, Norton served as assistant vice president for development at Palm Beach Atlantic College in West Palm Beach, Fla., from 1994-95. He previously served as director of marketing for the former Brotherhood Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention (1993-94); associate director of marketing/church growth evangelism for the former SBC Home Mission Board (1990-93); and director of purchasing for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas (1985-90).

Norton is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and Southwestern Seminary. He currently serves as treasurer of the Baptist Communicators Association and is a member of the Downtown Atlanta Kiwanis Club.

Norton and his wife, the former Dawn E. Shirley of Orlando, Fla., have a son, Luke T. Norton, 5. The Nortons are active members of Briarlake Baptist Church, Decatur, Ga.

“Tim Norton has been an invaluable member of the Index staff,” said editor William Neal. “He has organized the transfer of Index financial record keeping from the Georgia Baptist business office to our offices and has managed the many details involved in the transition to our own facilities at Pinebloom. We will miss him greatly but we are excited for him that he has this wonderful new opportunity with The Lord’s Day Alliance.”

Norton begins his new responsibilities on April 1.
