Tolar named interim theology dean as Southwestern begins search process

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP)–William B. Tolar has been named interim dean of the school of theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Southwestern President Kenneth S. Hemphill is conducting a nationwide search to replace Thomas Lea, who died July 3. Hemphill gave no word on when he hopes to find a new dean.
Tolar is distinguished professor of biblical backgrounds and special consultant to the president at the Fort Worth, Texas, seminary. He was elected to the seminary’s faculty in 1965 and has served in several leadership positions.
He was vice president for academic affairs and provost from1990-96 and dean of the school of theology from 1981-90.
