TruthQuesters to gather in Texas for reunion at FamilyNet studios

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–A reunion show featuring the TruthQuest: California [2] team will be filmed Sept. 21 in Fort Worth, Texas at the studios of FamilyNet Television. The 12 teenagers will come together once again to reflect on their July trip and share stories of how it influenced them to change since returning to their everyday lives.

TruthQuest: California is a joint ministry project involving Baptist Press, FamilyNet Television and the Broadman & Holman publishing arm of LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention. For 10 days, the students wrote stories about and participated in cutting-edge ministry in southern California. Their stories appeared in Baptist Press and their adventures will be chronicled in a 13-episode television series to air on FamilyNet beginning Oct. 3.

“TruthQuest: California is our response to what many people believe is wrong with network television,” said Martin Coleman, vice president of programming for FamilyNet. “There is a deep public dissatisfaction with ‘reality TV’ and people obviously want Christians to step up and provide an alternative.”

The teenagers learned to surf with a Christian surfing ministry in San Diego, attended a church on the beach, scaled the mountains in Yosemite National Park with Southern Baptist national park ministry staff, and shared their faith with teenagers at a coffee house in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco.

Since their summer adventures, the teenagers have moved on to other projects — mostly school-related. Freeman Field, from New York City, is a freshman at Baylor University; Katie Royals, from Jackson, Miss., is a freshman at Mississippi College; Janie Jo Allen, from Denver, Colo., is a freshman at East Texas Baptist University; Tim Harms and Richard Sparkman, from Franklin, Tenn., are freshmen in high school; Cara Yates, from Cleveland, Tenn., is a senior in high school; Sarah Brown, from Youngstown, Ohio, is a senior in high school; Shanna Hawkins, from Winston-Salem, N.C., is a senior in high school; David Hicks, from Cleveland, Tenn., is a freshman at Lee University; Chip Luter, from New Orleans, is a freshman at Dallas Baptist University; Josh Merritt, from Snellville, Ga., is a junior in high school; and Andy Botts, from Cleveland, Tenn., is a student at Cleveland State Community College.

TruthQuest: California will air weekly on FamilyNet Television beginning Oct. 3, Thursdays at 7 p.m. ET, Fridays at 12 a.m. and 11 p.m., Saturdays at 11:30 a.m., and Sundays at 12:30 a.m.
