SAN FRANCISCO (BP)–Earl Waggoner has joined the Rocky Mountain campus of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary as a professor of church history and theology.

Waggoner was most recently an adjunct faculty member at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned both a Ph.D. in systematic theology and an M.Div. Since 1998, he has served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Morgan City, La.

“I have always been intrigued by what Southern Baptists were doing in the western United States, the pioneer atmosphere,” Waggoner said. “That interest is one of the main reasons I pursued a faculty position with Golden Gate Seminary. I’m very excited about the opportunity to have a long-term ministry along with students and faculty in the West.”

Before going into full-time ministry, Waggoner worked in television production. That background in secular work, he said, combined with three different types of pastoral ministry, provide him with a broad range of experiences to help him relate to all the types of students attending the Rocky Mountain campus of Golden Gate Seminary.

“I look forward to interacting with students and encouraging them wherever they’re coming from, not just teaching them the academics,” he said.

Waggoner and his wife Kris have three children.
