Wells to be nominated for registration re-election

GRAPEVINE, Texas (BP)–Jim Richards, executive director of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, has announced that he will nominate James H. (Jim) Wells for another term as registration secretary of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Wells, who was elected to the post in 2002, is director of missions for the Tri-County Baptist Association in Ozark, Mo.

Wells introduced online registration for last year’s SBC annual meeting in Phoenix, and it was utilized in registering more than 40 percent of the messengers in attendance.

“It is a privilege for me to place before the convention a man of rare combination, kindness and convictions,” Richards said. “Jim has brought the annual meeting registration process into the 21st century while retaining a personal touch. Southern Baptists have a gracious servant in Jim Wells.”

Wells is a former member of the SBC Executive Committee, serving as its secretary from 1999-2001. He has served on numerous denominational committees and boards and is president of the Missouri Baptist Convention Directors of Missions. He earned a master of divinity degree in 1978 at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. Before his work as a director of missions, he had served nine churches as pastor during a ministry that began at age 16 in the small Missouri community of Tina.
