BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP)–Acteens from six states have been tapped by Woman’s Missionary Union to serve on the 2002 National Acteens Panel and as 2002 Top Teens.
The 12 teenagers were selected by national WMU staff from Acteens members nationwide who applied to serve on the national panel. Acteens is the missions organization sponsored by Woman’s Missionary Union for girls in grades seven through 12.
In a related matter, two Acteens were awarded the Jessica Powell Loftis Scholarship for Acteens. Recipients Christie Ganley of Graceville, Fla., and Jennifer McFadden* of Marshall, Mo, will receive $1,187 each. The WMU executive board awarded the scholarships.
Selected to serve on the six-member 2002 National Acteens Panel are Nicole Beatty, First Baptist Church, Humble, Texas; Karla Kerr, First Baptist Church, Smithville, Mo.; Regina Bishop, First Baptist Church, Deming, N.M.; Jennifer Martin, First Baptist Church, Stonewall, Miss.; Stephanie Irwin, Tallowood Baptist Church, Houston; and Meagan Smith, First Baptist Church, Woodway, Texas.
Six Acteens were named 2002 National Acteens Top Teens: Tabitha Breault and Sara Henderson, Heights Baptist Church, Temple, Texas; Whitney Church and Monica Waters, Germantown (Tenn.) Baptist Church; Jordan Hinkle, First Baptist Church, Jackson, Mo.; and Amanda Todd, Hollow Creek Baptist Church, Beech Island, S.C.
Selection of Acteens Panelists and Top Teens is based on accomplishments in MissionsQuest, the individual achievement plan for Acteens; involvement in Acteens and other church activities; and achievements in school, scholastically and socially. In addition to their applications and written testimonies, candidates had to be recommended by their pastor and Acteens leader.
“We continue to be excited about the quality of young women who are involved in Acteens,” said Pam Smith, WMU ministry consultant for students. “Our national Acteens Panelists and Top Teens are leaders among their peers who exemplify the very best Christian commitment, leadership potential and personal character and integrity.”
The panelists will be featured in the May/June 2002 issue of Accent, with the Top Teens appearing in the July/August issue. Some of the teens will also write for Accent throughout the year. Accent is the magazine produced by WMU for Acteens.
During 2002, Acteens Panelists and Top Teens will provide leadership in state and associational WMU-related meetings. Panelists also will serve as pages at the June 9-10 WMU Annual Meeting and June 11-12 Southern Baptist Convention, both in St. Louis.
