[1]BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP)–February 2001 marked the launch of national Woman’s Missionary Union’s effort to tell the story of Impact Northeast to its Missions Mosaic readers. A four-page bonus feature describing the project was included in the February 2001 issue sent to subscribers in 11 Impact Northeast states.
Impact Northeast (INE) is a partnership between state conventions in the south and northeast with the goal of permeating the northeastern United States with the gospel. The partners include Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, District of Columbia, New England, Maryland/Delaware, Pennsylvania/South Jersey and New York.
In addition to the communication piece, WMU, the Southern Baptist Convention’s involvement in the project includes developing and implementing a national INE prayer strategy and providing volunteer opportunities in the northeast through its MissionsFEST emphasis. The first of these projects will be held Oct. 4-6 and 7-13 in Philadelphia.
“Impact Northeast is an exciting new model of cooperation and partnership,” said Wanda S. Lee, WMU executive director. “WMU’s involvement is an expression of our commitment to be a missions resource for the local church.
“Our commitment is to mobilize our members to pray for and participate in Impact Northeast,” she added. “We want to communicate the missions message of Impact Northeast and give our members an avenue to respond.”
The feature, which will also be included in the May, August and November editions of Missions Mosaic, is compiled by Donna Pool and edited by Joanne Parker. Pool is the communications specialist for Impact Northeast and Parker is editor of Missions Mosaic. Pool’s work with Impact Northeast will also be featured in the April 2001 issue of Mosaic.
[2]The February feature includes an overview of the evangelism project, facts and statistics about the northeast, features on churches and ministries in the region, and a column by Impact Northeast coordinator Charles Barnes.
“Missions Mosaic readers are eager to hear how the gospel is being spread around the world, across the country and in their own communities,” said Parker. “They are quick to respond to needs with prayers and hands-on mission action.
“Putting the Impact Northeast bonus feature in Missions Mosaic is a perfect way for them to discover specific ways they can be involved in this ministry.”
