[1]CASPER, Wyo. (BP)–Wyoming Southern Baptists voted to hike the percentage of their Cooperative Program giving to national and international ministries during their Nov. 10-11 meeting in Casper.
Of an anticipated $413,000 in CP giving by the convention’s 76 churches and 18 missions, 31 percent will now be forwarded to Southern Baptist Convention causes, a 1 percent-of-budget increase from the current year.
The convention’s overall year-2000 budget, meanwhile, will be $1,172,000, up $62,000 from the current year.
Ninety-six messengers attended this year’s meeting at Casper’s Boyd Avenue Baptist Church.
In the election of officers, David Schroeder, pastor of North Cheyenne Baptist Church, was elected president over David Wells, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Riverton. Wells was then elected first vice president over Buddy Hanson, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church, Douglas. Hanson was then elected by acclamation as second vice president.
Robert and Marlene Robbins were honored for their 20-plus years of service to the convention’s Mountaintop Baptist Assembly at Casper. Messengers passed a resolution honoring the Mission Service Corps couple for having “selflessly given of their time, efforts, love and substance to the care, development, maintenance, protection and improvement” of the facility.
The Wednesday evening session featured a “Family Dedication Service” led by D. L. Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church, Lubbock, Texas.
William O. Crews, president of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, Calif., led four Bible studies from the New Testament Book of 1 Thessalonians.
Next year’s annual meeting will be Nov. 15-16 at Sunnyside Baptist Church, Cheyenne.
