I am convinced that the downward moral decline in America will not change because of who is in the White House. I truly believe the moral decline will only change because of who is in God’s House!
It is time for true revival. It is time for true repentance. It is time for the church to stand up and be the church by being light in a dark world and being salt in a low-sodium, saltless society! We can start by taking part in this 40/40 Prayer Vigil for Spiritual Revival and National Renewal. I truly believe this prayer vigil can make a difference in our nation.

As I travel across our nation, I am met with an almost universal understanding that we are in dire need of a Holy Ghost revival in our nation, in our churches, and in our lives. This refrain is repeated over and over.
God has a plan for our nation, for our churches, and for our lives. Satan also has a plan for us. May God break our hearts and bring us to the point where we not only see the need for revival, but we are willing to do whatever it takes to see the Holy Ghost revival fall upon our people!

[3]I can imagine no better way to be prepared to exercise our God-given freedom to vote for the person God would have serve as our congressman, senator, governor, or president than to follow the 40/40 prayer guide. You start off with seven days of prayer for “personal” revival, followed by six days of prayer for “church” revival and five days for revival among the church’s “leadership.” Starting with individual repentance and holiness, we move on to the church and to the nation and its need for spiritual repentance, revival, renewal, and reformation.

I believe as Southern Baptists that we need to humbly ask God to break our hearts for those in North America and throughout the world who do not know Him. We know that Jesus is in the business of changing lives and bringing hope to hopeless situations.
Are you seeing some situations in our nation today that look hopeless? Let’s introduce more of our neighbors and friends to the One who will bring hope. When hearts are changed, the direction of our cities and states and our nation will change.

I believe this vigil can have a profound influence on the course and the future of our nation. The 40/40 Prayer Vigil for Spiritual Revival and National Renewal calls for a visitation and intervention of God in our churches and our nation. This request ought to be like asking a famished man to eat or a parched throat in the desert to accept a cold sip of refreshing water.
Our wonderful Lord has promised, You shall find Me when you seek Me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13).

It is crucial that we fervently pray for the spiritual vitality of our families. The theological and moral commitments of our future leaders are being cultivated now. The home is the laboratory of life, where all members, despite their role or age, should be seeking to live out an authentic Christianity every single day. This is inviting God into the equation!
The 40/40 Prayer Vigil is intended to move us out of spiritual apathy and into the battle. Let us pray for an outpouring of God’s Spirit within our families that we might be salt and light in our world and a witness to the power of the Gospel.

Often I challenge our students at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary to pray a missionary prayer. It is not one most expect. I do not encourage them to pray, “Lord, should I go?” I challenge them to pray, “Lord, why should I stay?”
Our IMB says there are 3.6 billion people who lack an adequate opportunity to hear the Gospel. That means millions upon millions of people will be born, live, die and go to hell without ever hearing the Gospel and the name of Jesus. That is a sobering reality. It is a haunting reality. How should we respond? The Bible provides a clear and unambiguous answer. Pray!
