NASHVILLE (BP) — In response to the International Mission Board’s announcement of a personnel reduction, the Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee has adopted a resolution urging Southern Baptist churches to give “more than ever before” through the Cooperative Program.
[5]The resolution, which was adopted without opposition, stated, “At this urgent hour of desperate need in our nation and around the world, we, the members of the SBC Executive Committee, pledge to encourage and lead our churches to give more than ever before through the Cooperative Program in 2015 and beyond. We also call upon all cooperating Southern Baptist churches prayerfully to join us in doing more than ever before.”
The resolution was adopted during the Executive Committee’s Sept. 21–22 meeting in Nashville, where President David Platt and other IMB leaders addressed questions from EC members. The IMB had announced previously that it would reduce its total number of missionaries and staff by 600-800 in light of expenditures that exceeded revenues by $210 million over the past six years.

NASHVILLE (BP) — Since adopting a resolution in September pledging to “encourage and lead” their churches to “give more than ever before through the Cooperative Program,” at least 17 of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee’s 79 members have already recommended increases in CP giving at the churches where they are members. The proposed increases are intended to help the International Mission Board amid revenue shortages.
According to reports sent by EC members to chairman Mike Routt, proposed increases range from .2 percent to 2 percent of church budgets, though not all reporting members stated their recommendations as a percentage of undesignated receipts.
Routt told Baptist Press even at churches where a CP increase is not possible for the upcoming budget year, EC members “continue to use their influence to lead their congregations in exemplary missions giving.”
The average CP gift from churches of EC members in 2013-14 was 7.58 percent of undesignated receipts, 2.11 percentage points higher than the SBC average of 5.47 percent for the same period.

NASHVILLE (BP) — The Southern Baptist Convention ended its fiscal year $1.1 million over its 2014–2015 budgeted goal and $2.5 million over the previous year’s Cooperative Program allocation budget gifts, according to Frank S. Page, president and CEO of the SBC Executive Committee.
The SBC received $189,160,231.41 in CP allocation gifts for the year. This amount is $2,592,620.78, or 1.39 percent, more than it received during the last fiscal year, and is $1,160,231.41, or 0.62 percent, more than its budgeted goal of $188 million.
“We are grateful to every church and individual who believes in and supports the Cooperative Program of Southern Baptists,” Page said.

CP starts fiscal year 3.26% over budget projection [8]

NASHVILLE (BP) — Contributions to Southern Baptist national and international missions and ministries received by the SBC Executive Committee in October were 0.18 percent above last year’s opening month of the convention’s fiscal year and 3.26 percent above the projected budget for the first month, according to a news release from SBC Executive Committee President and Chief Executive Officer Frank Page.
As of Oct. 31, gifts received by the Executive Committee for distribution through the Cooperative Program Allocation Budget totaled $16,048,439.92, or $29,259.07 above the $16,019,180.85 received in October 2014.
“We are tremendously grateful that for the second year in a row Cooperative Program receipts received by the Executive Committee exceeded the previous October’s gifts and surpassed our projected budget goal for the first month of the fiscal year,” Page said.
“We continue to work at helping our cooperating churches see the vision of what we can accomplish when we work together — sustaining a global missions and ministry enterprise to the glory of God by going, sending, planting and training laborers for the harvest.”

Churches, States Respond to CP Missions and Ministry Vision

ABERDEEN, S.D. (BP) — The Dakota Baptist Convention increased its giving again to the SBC Cooperative Program missions and ministries — by one-half percent for 2016 — during its annual meeting.

(BP) — Saying “we can impact the world” by sending 51 percent of Florida’s Cooperative Program receipts to the Southern Baptist Convention while simultaneously increasing funds to reach Florida, Executive Director-Treasurer Tommy Green presented a $29 million budget for 2016 to the State Board of Missions’ Budget-Allocations Committee.

Ala. proposed budget continues toward SBC parity [23]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (BP) — Trustees of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions have unanimously voted to recommend a 2016 Cooperative Program budget of $40 million, with 53 percent funding state convention ministries and 47 percent going to Southern Baptist Convention ministries.
The SBOM’s Aug. 14 budget recommendation reflects the Alabama convention’s move toward “a point of parity or equitable distribution” of CP funds between Alabama and SBC missions and ministries, Rick Lance, SBOM executive director, told trustees.
