[1]DAVIS, Okla. (BP) — Two maintenance workers were killed and one injured in a work-related accident April 22 at the Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center in Davis, Okla., center spokesman Brian Hobbs has confirmed.
Killed were Charles Matlock and Jonathan Patrick Wright, employees of the center owned by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. A third worker was treated and released from an area hospital, Hobbs said.
“We are deeply saddened by today’s events, and our top priority is caring for the families affected by this and caring for our staff,” Hobbs said on the center’s website the day of the tragedy. “We ask your prayers for all those impacted today.”
While the center has not yet released details of the accident, CBS affiliate KXII-TV said Matlock and Wright were overcome by chlorine or methane gas at the conference center’s waste water plant on Kay Starr Trail. The Murray County Sheriff’s Office in Sulphur was investigating the accident.
According to an obituary listed on the website of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home in Lindsay, funeral services for 31-year-old Wright will be held April 26 at First Baptist Church, 401 Southwest 3rd Ave. in Lindsay, with pastor Alan McCoy officiating. Interment will follow at Purdy Cemetery south of Lindsay. Condolences may be made online at www.boydstonfuneralhome.com.
Funeral arrangements for Matlock were not available.
[2]The conference center in the Arbuckle Mountains hosts a wide variety of events, including an annual summer camp that draws more than 50,000 youths. More than 2 million people have attended various events at the center since its founding in 1917, according to the center’s website.
