KANSAS CITY (BP) — Citing significant growth, Midwestern Seminary’s Spanish Studies Department announced on Aug. 17 a reorganization of the staff and the addition of new faculty members.
Bobby Sena, director of Spanish Studies, said Arnaldo Achucarro and Cesar Perez have been added to the teaching faculty and Felix Cabrera will assume additional responsibilities.
“With nearly 200 students now pursuing degrees through the Spanish Studies Department, the time was right to expand the program,” Sena said. “With these recent moves, it’s clear that the administration at Midwestern understands the value and need for strengthening the program.”
From what was once only a doctoral focus, the school has moved to an overall Spanish Studies Program, that includes a certificate level, three master’s programs, and a Doctor of Ministry degree with a focus on leadership.
What makes the program special, Sena said, is that all members of the Spanish Studies leadership team are Hispanic — Cabrera is from Puerto Rico, Achucarro from Paraguay and Perez from Cuba. Each understands Hispanic culture and will teach students in their heart language. Each has also served in a pastoral role, “which keeps them relevant as they lead and teach pastors, denominational workers, and lay leaders in the Spanish Studies Program,” Sena said.
[2]Southwestern Seminary appoints seven administrative staff to faculty

FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) — Seven administrative staff of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary have been appointed to the faculty, beginning with the new academic year in time for the fall 2020 semester, the school’s administration announced today (Aug. 20).
“It is a great blessing to have outstanding administrative staff at Southwestern Seminary who are also committed scholars and are able to bring those teaching gifts into the classroom,” President Adam W. Greenway said. “The outstanding faculty of Southwestern Seminary is undergirded by these new colleagues, providing the best in theological education across the academic disciplines of Southern Baptists’ ‘crown jewel’ seminary.”
Staff appointed to faculty include Mark Baker, Amy L. Crider, Adam Dodd, George Dyson, Coleman M. Ford, Rebekah Naylor and Brent S. Ray. Ray died Aug. 14, soon after his appointment as associate professor of missions.
