FORT WORTH, Texas (BP)–Gregory Tomlin, 30, has been named news director for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

A native of North Little Rock, Ark., Tomlin is a doctoral student at Southwestern. He is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and worked as a corporate writer at National Medical Systems before coming to Southwestern in 1995.

In 1997, Tomlin completed a master of arts in theology with a special emphasis in church history. He also completed doctoral seminar studies last year and has been admitted to doctoral candidacy. Tomlin also occasionally serves as a teaching fellow in church history for Southwestern.

He is currently writing a dissertation in church history, titled, “Hawks and Doves: Southern Baptist Responses to Military Intervention in Southeast Asia, 1965-73.”

David Porter, Southwestern’s director of public relations, called Tomlin a “wonderful addition to the seminary staff. Greg is a Southern Baptist with deep convictions. He has a passion for missions, and he is a gifted theologian and communicator,” Porter said. Tomlin will oversee the news department at Southwestern Seminary, which includes three part-time news writers who are also seminary students.

Tomlin and his wife, Cynthia, have two daughters, Libby and Caroline.
