BP Sports announces award to recognize student athletes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–A new award that will recognize athletic achievement and spiritual attitude by students at Baptist colleges and universities will debut Sept. 5, according to Will Hall, vice president for convention news for the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee.

Each week, a Baptist collegiate athlete will be awarded the “Playmaker for the Maker,” a weekly feature of BP Sports that will honor student athletes who excel on the athletic field and are active in church and missions activities.

“We have so many tremendous athletes who not only make a difference on the athletic fields, but on the mission field too,” Hall said. “This weekly award will introduce Southern Baptists to the great caliber of student athletes who are on mission at our colleges and universities.”

Recipients will be announced and featured every Monday in BP Sports and will receive a BP Sports T-shirt and award, Hall said.

Only students who play for Baptist college and university teams are eligible for the award.

Coaches and sports information directors can nominate candidates for the Playmaker for the Maker electronically at [email protected] or call (615) 782-8615 for additional information.
