Fla. exec John Sullivan experiences mild heart attack

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (BP)–John Sullivan, executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention, experienced a mild heart attack in the early hours May 8 in his Jacksonville, Fla., home.

He was transported by emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to Memorial Medical Center in Jacksonville. After an examination by a heart specialist he underwent surgery for the installation of an arterial stint. Doctors reported that Sullivan, 69, suffered no permanent damage and is resting well.

Sullivan is located temporarily in the hospital’s intensive care unit and is expected to be transferred to a regular room. Doctors anticipate releasing Sullivan from the hospital within three days.

For now, doctors request that Sullivan not receive any visitors or telephone calls.

In Sullivan’s absence, Glen Owens, assistant executive director, is leading the convention staff.
